A new national study by Angeline Lillard and her colleagues found that public Montessori preschools provided meaningful benefits for children by the end of kindergarten. In a randomized, lottery-based study of nearly 600 students across 24 U.S. schools, children who attended Montessori schools showed stronger outcomes in reading, memory, executive function, and social understanding compared to peers in traditional programs.
